Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Just like last time, this time we have a Generation Gap which will take two weeks to cover. Since it’s time for Japan again, let’s do something special. This storied nameplate has existed since 1966 and is the best selling car the world over. Yes, it’s the humble Corolla. Today we take a look at the first five models, cars that were all available with RWD in some form or another (usually as coupes towards the 80's). Which is your favorite of this quintet? (Note: We focus on the sedans here. The coupe/liftbacks will be highlighted later, likely under the Sprinter nameplate.)
The options:
First Generation [1966 - 1970] E10
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Second Generation [1970 - 1974] E20

Third Generation [1974 - 1979] E30-60
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Fourth Generation [1979 - 1983] E70
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Fifth Generation [1984 - 1987]

It did disguised D pillars before it was cool

Indeed, even with that funky constricted portion at the rear. Toyota has since lost the plot though.

I would do horrible things for that little Corolla wagon. It’s like an 80's - ified version of modern styling

Miata is not always the answer. Because wagon most definitely is.

The 5th gen is FWD.

Yes, but for the coupe and AE86 variants they still offered RWD, which was not true for the next one which became FWD/AWD only.
